Install Yonto Player on Android TV

Yonto Player for Android TV is an APK, not an app in the TV’s store, and a TV has no browser to open a downloaded file in. The quickest way is the Downloader app: type the code 9188303 with the remote, or the address player.yonto.app/tv, and it fetches the latest version. Yonto Player needs Android 8.0 or later.

Android only installs an APK from an app you have allowed to install unknown apps. Most TVs ask the first time: when the installer says the TV is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source, choose Settings, turn the switch on for that app, then go back and install.

If it doesn’t ask, look in the TV’s settings for Install unknown apps or Unknown sources, and turn it on for the app you are installing from. Where it lives varies by device and Android version: try Settings, Apps, Security & restrictions, or Settings, Device Preferences, Security & restrictions. On some Google TV devices it only shows once Developer options are on.

  1. On the TV, open the Google Play Store, or Apps on Google TV, search for Downloader, and install the Downloader app by AFTVnews.
  2. Open Downloader, select the address box, and type the code 9188303, or the address player.yonto.app/tv. Both fetch the same latest version.
  3. Choose Go. Downloader fetches the latest Yonto Player for Android TV.
  4. When the installer opens, choose Install. If Android asks, allow Downloader to install unknown apps (above), then install.
  5. Choose Open, or find Yonto Player in your TV’s apps.

Downloader may then offer to delete the APK it downloaded; Yonto Player is installed either way, so you can delete it.

Send-files apps send a file from a phone to a TV over your home Wi-Fi. Pick one that has an Android TV app, and install it on both the phone and the TV.

  1. On your phone, download the Android TV APK from the download page.
  2. Open the send-files app on both devices and send the APK to the TV.
  3. On the TV, open the file the app received and choose Install. If Android asks, allow that app to install unknown apps (above).
  1. On a computer, download the Android TV APK from the download page and copy it to a USB drive.
  2. Plug the drive into the TV or the box.
  3. Open the drive in a file manager app on the TV. If the TV has none, install one from its app store.
  4. Select the APK and choose Install. If Android asks, allow the file manager to install unknown apps (above).

Yonto Player keeps itself up to date: About checks for new versions and installs them when you say so, so you only do this once. Getting started takes it from there.
