Video format support

Yonto Player has two players, and which one plays a file decides what works with it. Your device’s own player comes first, and a second player takes what it cannot read (Video formats Yonto Player plays says how). None of it is behind Pro. The iPhone, iPad and Mac apps are not out yet.

A Blu-ray under AACS or BD+, a DVD under CSS, and a DVD that weaves several cuts or camera angles of its film together do not play. A Jellyfin, Plex or Emby server converts a file this device cannot play, and the converted video plays in the device’s own player.

Picture-in-picture is not on Android TV or the Mac, and the Android TV and Mac apps do not cast or download. Downloads need Pro and come from any source whose videos come over the network, as long as it gives the video as one file or as an HLS playlist: a live stream, a DASH video and an HLS video with protected or byte-range pieces do not download (Download to watch offline). A download is the file as the source serves it, so it plays in the same player the file would. How a cast repackages or converts a video is in Cast to a Chromecast, an AirPlay screen or a DLNA TV.

Sound Android TV, phone and tablet iPhone, iPad and Mac
AAC, MP3, FLAC Yes Yes
Dolby Digital (AC3) and Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC-3) Yes, decoded by Yonto Player when the device cannot Yes
DTS, DTS-HD included Yes, decoded by Yonto Player when the device cannot Yes, in a file the second player plays, such as every MKV
Dolby TrueHD Yes, decoded by Yonto Player when the device cannot Not yet: the film plays without sound

A film with several audio tracks lets you switch while it plays, but not yet in the device’s own player on the Mac, which starts in the language Settings → Player → Audio language names. A cast sends the sound as it is where the receiver plays it, and converts it where it does not (DTS, TrueHD and Dolby audio on Android TV has more on Android’s decoding).
