FAQ

No. Yonto Player is a player: apart from the demo library of short clips we made ourselves, everything you watch comes from a source you add. It ships with no catalogs, and what you add is your responsibility, so only use sources you are entitled to watch. Pro includes no content either.

Free is the whole app, with one source of your own (and the demo library until you add yours), so you can use Yonto Player with your own server for as long as you like. Pro, one payment of US$7.47 instead of US$14.95 while the offer runs, is how Yonto Player is paid for, and it adds as many sources as you like and installing plugins. The sources you already have stay when you reach the limit. See Yonto Pro.

Many sites serve their catalog in a format other sites share, such as MacCMS or XPTV. A format reader is a plugin that reads one of those formats, and Yonto Player has one built in for each. A reader holds no catalog: each source you add, by hand or from a repo, gives it the one catalog address it reads.

A plugin can also read a format in place of the built-in reader. Yonto Player says so before it does, with a line such as “Reads MacCMS format (JSON) sources instead of the built-in reader”, and the plugin’s page offers Use the built-in reader to go back. See Plugins and repos.

Go to Settings, Cache, and choose Clear cache. Yonto Player keeps what each source last answered, and shows it when the source is slow or down. Clearing it makes Yonto Player ask every source again; it says “Cleared, Home is reloading”. Your sources, History and settings stay.

How does the PIN work, and what if I forget it?

Section titled “How does the PIN work, and what if I forget it?”

A Master PIN makes Yonto Player ask for four digits every time it starts. Set, change or remove it under Settings, Master PIN. If you forget it, choose Forgot PIN? on the lock screen. With Pro on the device, the unlock code on your account gets you back in with everything kept; without it, clearing Yonto Player’s data is the only way back. Pro bought in the App Store has an account, and so unlock codes, once you add your email to it, so add it before you need one. Master PIN has the details.

  • On Android TV, a phone or a tablet, go to Settings, About, and choose Check for updates. If there is a new version, choose Update to it, then Install it once it has downloaded. Installing replaces this version; your sources and history are kept.
  • On an iPhone or iPad, Yonto Player updates through the App Store, like any other app. Settings, About shows your version.

The first time, Android may ask you to let Yonto Player install updates: choose Open permission settings, allow it, then press Back.

Yonto Player has no account for your library: your sources, History and settings stay on the device they were made on, and nothing copies them across.

  1. Install Yonto Player on the new TV from the download page.
  2. Add your sources again. If they came from a repo, adding the repo brings them back in one go.
  3. If you have Pro, turn it on with Settings, Yonto Pro, Activate with your phone.

If your licence is already on 5 devices, remove the old TV on your account page first. See Devices.

Yes. Pro is checked on the device, and a device that cannot reach the licence service keeps it. Only turning Pro on needs the internet.

See Troubleshooting, which goes through every message Yonto Player shows, or write to support@yonto.app with the app version from Settings, About, the type of source and what the screen said.
